Success Breeds Success

Do you see progress or do you beat yourself up for not being good enough? I’ll let you reflect on that for a moment! Consider that the “not good enough syndrome” means you are operating under continual stress which over time has implications for your health. You can change that by using a daily process of acknowledging small steps. As you do this, it accumulates into bigger outcomes. And, when you are at this new level of success your perspective changes!

“People who succeed have momentum. The more they succeed, the more they want to succeed, and the more they find a way to succeed. Similarly, when someone is failing, the tendency is to get on a downward spiral that can even become a self-fulfilling prophecy.”
– Tony Robbins

Never Enough Time?

With end of year deadlines approaching and your social calendar bursting at the seams, do you feel you have too much to do and not enough time? Time is an interesting concept and I sure you would have experienced situations when time either “stood still” or, when it felt that there was never enough time. This time of the year does bring challenges with demands on your time, however by being clear on your outcomes and managing your time more effectively, you will achieve success.

External demands, distractions and frustrations shift our focus and derail our dreams. We all have areas of our lives that require more attention, so it is important for you to discover who you are, ascertain if you have everything you want at the moment and decide if you have the quality of life you truly deserve. Decide where you would like your focus to be, write precise goals and check that they are inspirational, measurable, and have stretch. Then, it is important to think about how you’re going to manage your time to achieve your exciting new goals. By creating time for success with a renewed focus, you will note success through small steps and your momentum and motivation will build progressively. And, here’s some tips for you:

  • Review your current approach with time management
  • Find out where you are wasting time
  • Create your ideal life
  • Ensure you are focusing in the right areas of your life
  • Choose new goals that you feel excited about
  • Decide on a system that suits your needs
  • Notice demands that arise and how you respond
  • Ensure your decisions and habits support you
  • Become aware of the natural flow in your life

Character Lasts

Do you want to build your character so that it is not washed away by the next wave?

Building character is an opportunity to discover who you truly are. By pushing past the façade, moving past flaws, giving 100% and building depth through mental resilience, true character will evolve. At times, your senses may be overloaded, however if you push past your limits, short term pain will give long term gain. While that may be uncomfortable, the comfort you will always have will be in your mind!

Character continues to evolve by moving away from reactions, considering who needs your support, letting out emotion when you need to and channelling energy in the right way. Talk yourself into going beyond your self-imposed boundaries and keep putting one foot in front of another!

“Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing” – Abraham Lincoln

Determination to Succeed

How determined are you? Do you get back up after failure and keep going, or switch off and keep repeating mistakes? Have you reflected on what makes you determined? What have you learnt from working in teams? Do you know what your needs and wants are in achieving a team objective? Questions lead to better outcomes!

Life is a journey and an opportunity to learn, grow and move you in the direction of your desires: strength of mind and character gives you the determination to succeed! Remember, work against your impulses and always have your end game in mind. In a physical challenge, your body will go further than you think and keep putting one foot in front of another. Draw on support through likeminded people who have been there for you.

Each day, remember your successes yesterday and keep building in new habits. Through attitude, determination and grit you will succeed. You have got what I takes!

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time” — Thomas A. Edison

What’s holding YOU back?

You’ve had messages in your life, you’ve ignored them and then…………………surprise, surprise, all the chickens come home to roost! You want to take that next step, you can’t and you’re not sure what’s holding you back! Then, you collapse in a heap not realizing this has been happening for a while. Being human, we are all subjected to different situations, past events and they all come under the one heading “triggers.” Then, when we need the confidence to go forward, it’s not there! This can also occur during life transitions. For example, we’ve been a highly successful Olympic athlete, F1 racing car driver or astronaut and then what? To move forward everything needs to be aligned, triggers addressed, past issues dealt with, successes acknowledged and confidence built. Total alignment will enable you to pursue a new path in line with what you are passionate about and then you’re ready 1,2, 3………………LET’S GO!

And, if you’d like support to unravel your triggers, email me at geoffedwards@bigpond.com

WHO ARE YOU?

Our sense of self has been developed through family, work and experiences. Quite often however, there are defining moments in our lives that give us a wake- up call and then, a realisation hits us one day: it’s like the tip of an iceberg! What shows up? Past experiences, people in our lives, behaviours and it feels very fearful to get past it all. One answer is to take yourself on a fear experience to break down your barriers! Enrol yourself in the SAS Australia TV show, or go to a fire walk experience event (like I did). If you want to keep it simple however, give yourself some time out for discovery.

The first step to start you on a journey to discover yourself and who you are meant to become is to look at your life purpose. So, take out a few sheets of loose paper, or a journal and a pen and find a quiet place where you will not be interrupted. Turn off your mobile phone, your computer. Write the answers to each question below without editing:

  • What makes you smile? (Activities, people, vents, hobbies, projects etc.)
  • What were your favourite things to do in the past? What about now?
  • What activities make you lose track of time?
  • What makes you feel great about yourself?
  • Write down all of your major goals in your life that you feel you want to achieve
  • Who inspires you most? (Anyone you know or do not know. Family, friends, authors, artists, leaders, etc.). Which qualities inspire you, in each person?
  • What are you naturally good at? (Skills, abilities, gifts etc.)
  • What do people typically ask you for help in?
  • If you had to teach something, what would you teach?

Keep your answers in a notebook that’s both easy to access and update wherever you happen to be: it will be a source of sustaining you and by which you can continue to measure your growth through life with a new identity.

And, if you’d like support to discover your identity, email me at geoffedwards@bigpond.com

5 Tips for Business Success

Business success is built on learning from failure: Thomas Edison found 10000 ways that didn’t work and from this he learnt to never give up! Either starting a new business or re-inventing your existing business is an exciting opportunity to progress what you are passionate about. To start a business, a plan is essential and I can provide a 1 page Business Plan template if you contact me at geoffedwards@bigpond.com. To further develop your existing business here are 5 tips:

  • Be small, yet think big – make sure your business takes maximum advantage of areas that represent the strength of small business i.e. ability to respond quickly, personalized service
  • Differentiate your products – present the benefits of your products and services to your customers and package them distinctly
  • Listen to your customers – when you focus on your customers and gain their trust, they will recommend you
  • Plan for success – a good plan helps you increase your chances of succeeding, and can help you define your business concepts, estimate costs, predict sales and control risks
  • Work Smart – as an entrepreneur, you need to be far-sighted and accept things as they are and deal with them accordingly

Where there is Hope there is Light!

What do you see when you look at this picture, the dark clouds or, the bright light in the distance? Our focus creates our reality and while there may be challenges and uncertainties in life, there is always a way to focus beyond this and create the life you deserve, whether a career change, a new business, a new music album or, a better you!

Have you ever had that feeling of just “knowing” that something will take place and it did? Then at other times, it seems like a grind and you are really working hard at everything you do and so many things get in the way. Even though we live in a dynamic world, we all require some level of certainty.

“The only thing standing between you and certainty is the story you keep telling yourself” Anonymous

Each day we are presented with new situations and circumstances such as traffic jams, changes in the workplace and the effects of the economy: this is reality! You can start and change your world into a better place by accepting that even though there is uncertainty, through this you can also create growth. If you change in small ways daily in how you live your life, this will create certainty in your world as it is building towards your ultimate vision. Also, being guided by what we see, hear and feel currently will create certainty. Using brilliant questions brings about new and empowering decisions which will instantly change your life’s path, such as “What advice would you give a friend in this situation?”

By deciding to step up and meet any challenge, you will be amazed – with adversity, growth comes and you will be rewarded. It is important for you to have a strategy that will provide a support mechanism during these times of challenge and uncertainty. Focus on building your self-nurturing skills, even when you are troubled. Make time for activities that you enjoy. By taking care of your own needs, you can boost your overall health and resilience and be fully ready to face life’s challenges. Here are some tips to create certainty in your life:

  • Build intuitive skills
  • Be in the present moment
  • Ask yourself powerful questions
  • Develop your resilience
  • Be clear on your future vision
  • Know what creates certainty for you

Inspired by Nature

A moment captured in time can help us appreciate what we have in our lives and also inspire us for future possibilities. If you take a moment now and reflect on your life, what would YOU like to change? Would you like to move into a new career, start a new business, create a new music album, enter an art competition, or change yourself? Commitment is the first start to the change process, so make a decision to CHANGE now! As a start, decide where you would love to be in the future and what you would like to be doing. Then, check on the barriers that may be holding you back. We all have patterns in our lives and having awareness about this is crucial. Do you sabotage yourself in a new relationship, does it take a while for people to get to know you, do you have a “mask” that you sometimes take off and show people who you really are and are you running away from anything? You may need to eliminate past behaviours and patterns to uncover who you are. After this initial change takes place, you can progress in your life with some exciting goals that focus in any area, whether it is in your career, a business, a creative possibility, or for yourself. Also, as you develop actions in line with your goals, monitor your progress, be in tune with your insights and overall, acknowledge your successes daily as success breeds success

Putting it all into practice is about strengthening your approach with indestructible habits through:

  • Action plans – what are you going to do today?
  • Keeping a check on Urgent vs. Important – The four quadrants of operation?
  • Keeping it all in balance
  • Managing to do lists – How to keep them small and fulfilling
  • Goal measurement
  • Your mental approach i.e. affirmations, visualisation, thought for the day
  • Resources to draw on and reminders

This will result in an action plan that will accelerate you to new levels of success and the development of a success formula. Remember clarity is power and know why this approach is a must, not a should! Take massive action and review, look at model strategies of peak performers. Through this you will manage time by outcomes and you will move to outstanding success.
